MDS 2.0

Regulatory changes in the MDS 2.0 data can effect every nursing facility in the nation.  One of the latest changes to arise from H.C.F.A. is the announcement of the new 1.10 Data Specifications.  This change should be mandated in April, 2000.  

When the new specs go into effect, a new data checking procedure will be in place.  Data such as Ulcers and Symptoms of Depression will be reviewed for clinical consistency within the MDS.  

A detailed list of the New Consistency Requirements is in the document below.  Also included in this document are the requirements of date sequencing and record sequencing changes.

Along with the data checking aspect for submitted MDS assessments,  there will be the addition of a new form.  It is the MDS Correction Form.  Both the form and the policy are available below.

RUGS III / Medicare PPS 

RUGS III classification is the process of grouping residents into one of either 34 or 44 groups.  This grouping is determined by the clinical data on the MDS 2.0 assessment.  

Currently, there are the many different versions of RUG-III available for use with the MDS 2.0: RUG-III Version 5.01, RUG-III Version 5.11, and RUG-III Version 5.12.

5.12 is the version used for the Medicare Prospective Payment System.  Information about this and other versions is available below.
